ATTILIO:
He has extensive experience in a variety of industries including construction, business, and equipment installation, maintenance and repair. He is an institute of inspection, cleaning and restoration service certification, certified technician and distinctly qualified to properly assess the cleaning needs of customers. Home commercial facility please welcome to the show the lead tech of Zerorez Hawaii. What’s his name? Adrian?
ADRIENNE:
Mike man. Hello,
ATTILIO:
Mike man. Hello. Um, I have a question for you, Mike. Yes, sir. Are you in any way related to Barry?
MIKE:
Actually, the name of my last name is actually pronounced Manalo manana Waimanalo. So Waimanalo
ATTILIO:
Tisbury, if Barry was Hawaiian, maybe he would be. Maybe your Holly step uncle
MIKE:
from another mother,
ATTILIO:
there you go. So anyway, I’m a class of 85 graduates, so he moolah coming Omaha. We always move forward. And yeah, so yeah, my hind side of the family is Kenny LPO. And they all originated from Waimanalo I think some we still got some we still got some high end homes out there. So but you have a question for Mike. Adrian right off the top.
ADRIENNE:
So Mike, could you share with our listeners what what is this zero Rez? Yeah, what exactly is it?
MIKE:
So our claim to fame was zeros and zeros Hawaii is we don’t residue in your carpets. If you’ve if you’ve had your carpets cleaned before, most times when you get either with industrial cleaner IP or if you have someone come over to clean it professional cleaner. It’s usually crunchy or it’s hard or it feels just a little a little off. Because we don’t use any harsh chemicals. We bring your own water. When we clean a carpet it it’s not going to be brand new, but it’s going to be as close to new as we can get it. But it’ll be soft and more like when you bought it then how it’s been for the last 510 15 years or however old The carpet is.
ATTILIO:
Yeah, instead of smelling uncle’s tow jams. You smell that fresh, fresh carpet field because you know Hawaii style I know the same thing must be what you might write when we go like to my dad’s house. He a couple couches, but you know where all the kids are, especially after we have one Canac attack after we eat. We’re all sprawled out all over the carpet. And the babies are crawling around. You know the kids doing yoga exercises? No, I don’t know if they’re doing yoga. They’re playing cards, but everybody’s just sitting on the ground in the carpets. And so yeah, I know what you mean by crunchy carpets. We sold enough homes to be like, do I have to take my shoes off? SOCKS I wear black socks for those days.
MIKE:
I’m glad you brought up a policy too because we also do upholstery cleanings nice. If you have any kind of any kind of upholstery we also clean upholstery too. So
ADRIENNE:
So So Mike with the with the carpets. When would you say like the carpet is too old to be to meet cleaning, you say that you bring it back to the padding?
MIKE:
Yeah, exactly. Or if you can see the bottom to see the cement or wood floor is too far. So we’ve cleaned carpets like I think the oldest one that we’ve cleaned so far, I think was around 25 to 30 years old. Oh well that we’ve cleaned but so it was the older customer as he was the son that came and the mom had passed away original carpet original home they moved everything out. Well when tutu was there, she had all never moved anywhere furniture so when you move the furniture and the color of the carpet was underneath that furniture so the original color of the carpet was a green like a mid green the carpet now because of fading and everything for the sun and traffic it’s like a pink now Oh, but we cleaned it and it actually came on nice of course you can’t do anything once the color has been changed that much with the sun and and wear patterns and everything. But it still felt soft and this is carpet that was almost 30 years old. So unless you put the
ATTILIO:
furniture back in the same spots well
MIKE:
a lot of the furniture they had sold because they were actually getting ready to get ready to sell the house but they just wanted to get the carpets clean for the new tenants and if they wanted to change it then they could change it so but yeah, that was 30 year old carpet and it wasn’t actually that bad because it was only to to living there for most of the time. Yeah all the kids are out so there wasn’t there wasn’t a it was just her walking around.
ATTILIO:
So she had covers on all the furniture.
MIKE:
Wow, there’s yeah, there’s there’s that. The 80s 80s plastic you’re not allowed there. You’re not allowed to go in as a kid.
ATTILIO:
Yeah, when you when you get up off the couch, you’re like, Oh, that wasn’t me. It was the couch But
ADRIENNE:
so so Mike you touched on this a little bit about your guy’s process but if you can elaborate how you are different from the other
ATTILIO:
especially for the people who are sensitive yeah they sensitive day when they went to recess they went cried because he wanted to stay inside the classroom not that kind of sensitive we talking about like sensitive to chemicals smells smells,
MIKE:
yeah. Yeah so with our process, the water that we use goes through a special process that we have. So we use we take regular tap water and that runs through a water softener. So it’s often the development that we go through an electrolysis machine which we add soda ash and more salt to it. So it’s actually super super salty. With a little bit of like electrolysis water, and actually when you touch it, it almost feels like a gel. So with that, when it meets any kind of dirt, grime or anything is actually turns into something another product or another. Another form yeah when when the water hits and then we pull it up so actually timber to something else. That’s why we don’t you have to use a lot of harsh chemicals. Now if you do have a lot of staining with like spaghetti or may even make that we’ve been able to get makeup out unless it’s waterproof makeup then you’re kind of stuck but regular make able to get out because the water actually bonds to whatever that is and turns into another entity. And then we’re able to extract that with our vacuum wall.
ATTILIO:
Why do they have waterproof makeup is so you can look good when you’re scuba diving.
MIKE:
Not in the water.
ATTILIO:
20 feet below a supermodel.
MIKE:
Wedding or glistening isn’t the
ATTILIO:
case I need to go jogging and you know do my 45 workout my mascara is not going to run. Exactly. So the and it’s important this is what we tell people about the purchase contract Adrienne, what’s important to know about the cleaning section in our purchase contracts. And by the way, this doesn’t matter what brokerage or whatever this is the purchase contract that 99.9% of the agents and brokerages use in the in the state of Hawaii. What does it say in the cleaning?
ADRIENNE:
Well, it specifically states for carpets, it must be professionally cleaned. It doesn’t mean like
ATTILIO:
Rug Doctor from Safeway. Yeah, that does not equal professional. Yeah. So it’s actually part of the contract in the home purchase unless it’s negotiated out. But with the kind crazy prices people are paying right now, I don’t think they would appreciate a crunchy carpet.
MIKE:
No, and that also goes with rental too. And when they rent out apartments, townhouses or condos to that you have to have a professional clean to for rentals.
ATTILIO:
You know, I’m glad you mentioned that about rentals because we, you know, we, we talked to Duke all the time, he manages about 1000 properties, and he is typically what he’s finding is when the carpet gets dirty, the tenants are like, Okay, we’re ready for move. So if you go in and clean the carpets, the tenants are more likely to stay, and you don’t have that vacancy or turnover. So,
ADRIENNE:
yeah, that’s a excellent idea. The other thing too happy.
ATTILIO:
What are we putting now in our leases in these leases? Now? What’s in there regarding cleaning? Professional, professional cleaning? Yeah, it’s
ADRIENNE:
professionally cleaned when they go in. It has to be professionally clean when you
ATTILIO:
go out. And most property managers, the good ones are putting professional cleaning into the lease. You’re like, oh, wow, it looks clean. And you look in the window, then you’re walking inside. It’s all crunch, crunch crunch. And this not cereal on the ground? It’s the carpet. Yeah, so professional cleaning. You know, one of your teammates shared a story of how a lady and I don’t know if numeron Do I do? Do you recall the story? It’s a lady she was she had cancer she had cancer. Yep. Do you remember that story? Can you share with us or I can share because I remember
MIKE:
you want to share the story and have an update on that. Yeah, share what’s what you have and then I can add on to it. Yeah,
ATTILIO:
which he had shared was that the gist was coughing all the time. And you know that just having that on top of the cancer was very uncomfortable. And then the husband you guys came in clean the carpet and she said you know and he was either her the husband said Finally after all this time we she stopped coughing and you know, it made her life her quality of life much more better. And they’re like, having you guys come there all the time and they’re happy to you know, and I know as the husband in that situation you do whatever you whatever is necessary especially for your for your wife and she’s facing that to have her feel comfortable. So good job on that. But you had some add ons.
MIKE:
Yeah, so actually there were actually our very for one of our very first customers and actually, they frequent Vegas a lot. So They actually had seen a Zerorez Vegas ad. And when they had flown back here, there, they looked us up online. And they’re actually one of our first customers that we actually ended up servicing on a kind of a little bit sadder note she did end up passing away a couple months ago. But he said that because of us, she was able to it was more enjoyable the last couple of months of her life here, and she actually they love going to Vegas and she was in Vegas when she passed away because that’s what they love the dude that’s what they did together. And it was kind of like a sweet little farewell I guess an ending but it was a nice farewell and we’re actually still planning for him to hit we will be don’t go in as much because it’s only him there now. But we’re still servicing him and yeah, he’s he’s become all of our uncles.
ATTILIO:
And think you guys too, you guys, not only the carpets and upholstery, but you guys do like tile.
MIKE:
Tile hardwood floors. countertops. Yep. A little bit everything.
ATTILIO:
Yeah, no. And I think it’s nice having that done every once in a while. Because a lot of times we don’t do these until we get ready to sell. And every single client they say exactly the same thing we should have done this long time ago. And enjoy what we just did all this effort. We should enjoyed it. We was living here.
ADRIENNE:
Yeah, I had them come in and do my travertine tile. Yeah. And the grout lines, like Wow, a completely different color.
ATTILIO:
It was all you can still jams in the grout line. What’s that? What’s that stuff? The chocolate stuff. They like to eat nuts. Hella Nutella? Yeah, so you helped get the Nutella out of the grout lines. And she has pets too. So that was kind of nice.
ADRIENNE:
It was awesome. I’m thinking like, I should probably have you guys come back. Because it’s been about a year.
ATTILIO:
Yeah. So about a good time to do that. So um, you know, Mike, the, the, the process is Zerorez. You know, you have a lot of certifications, talk about this inspection, cleaning and restore restoration certification certification, how to, like how did you have to go through that? What’s the process?
MIKE:
So for? So depending on what the product is, so like for carpet cleaning, there’s a class you have to take. And then also, for the carpet one, it’s 100 I think it was 180 questions, test, you have to take and then pass. And then for for each, like for tile, there’s a separate test, you have to take that one of the only about 100 questions. And then there’s hands on so there’s a it’s kind of like a like a mechanic, you know, they have to get the ASE certification they think can be certified to work on a vehicle. So yeah, it’s not it’s not rocket scientist, but kind of what I’m doing and what we’re getting out there and meeting people so yeah.
ADRIENNE:
So So Mike, what kind of specials Do you guys have running this time of year.
MIKE:
So right now we’re still running our three carpeted room special for 179 It was our Grand Opening special we decided to keep going with it. So we’re still doing that right now we have a couple other specials going on. And there’s a new service that we’re just starting to roll out now it’s a complete home made service or final move out. We do complete cleaning for final move outs including all windows, greens appliances, wiping down all the cabinets something we just started and we also do like we want to have a weekly maid service we come in we can do that to Kajabi have and if you guys haven’t if anyone has any questions they can just call our our main line and then we can come on do an estimate free estimate that we’re doing not on anything you want done we’ll do free estimates and that will be need of does it so yeah, we’re wherever you are. Again. We’re getting ready to expand hopefully to neighbor islands hopefully by the end of this year. So we’re getting ready to go statewide. So
ATTILIO:
and you guys got a really excellent, excellent website. I like how you have on here, no lingering soap residue, no harsh chemicals, no crunchy carpet, fast drying treatments, pet friendly kid friendly, extends extends the life of carpets because I don’t know about Yeah, nobody likes having to move all that stuff out. And then bring in you know take up everything and then put it all back. You want to just spend a lot of money doing that time and effort and it’s a pain in the butt I’d rather have you guys come in once a year to maintain that and and all that good stuff and then you guys are good too with like expensive carpeting like oriental rugs. I see.
MIKE:
We do some area we do cleaning out of area rugs to the silk we don’t do as much. That’s a little more difficult process but most 90 Probably 80 90% area rugs we can clean Gotcha. And we do we do we can either do it in Home or drop off pick up. Service. Do
ATTILIO:
I see you guys do showers? You guys do showers to
MIKE:
the tile showers. Yep.
ADRIENNE:
That’s good. They actually did one of our clients showers. Yeah. And they were they’re extremely happy with how it turned out because it just like looks like a whole new shower.
ATTILIO:
I also see it says pet stains and odor removal. And that will be the same for the kids.
MIKE:
Well, we can we can we can try for kids one. Yeah, sometimes.
ATTILIO:
Yeah. But yeah, all right. Good stuff. So if anybody’s looking to you can go to the site though. The website is zero Rez hawaii.com. And I see you guys have a phone number 6997232. That’s 6997232 And you have this like book now button. And then what somebody’s gonna call them and then a CV and I was like these people, this person in the bottom right corner, like a live texting person.
MIKE:
Yesterday, someone here that is in our call center. That’s actually Amy. So she actually runs our call center here. So it’s not her picture. So we’re trying to get her to put her picture on there. We have a Hawaiian on there. Yeah, hello.
ATTILIO:
And instead of saying hi there, her response should be how’s it have one question? And then when she answers the question, she should say shoots then you know, okay, this is for real, and not somebody from you know,
MIKE:
India or wherever.
ADRIENNE:
You guys are also all over social media as well on Instagram and Facebook. Do you show a lot of the before and after kind of jobs that you’ve done? We’re
MIKE:
trying to get better. Where we haven’t been really good. There’s one thing I will truly admit we’re not really good at taking before and after pictures because we’re so interested to try to get there and get it done that we’ve been lacking on our before pictures, we have great after pictures, but we can’t do so we’re getting we’re working on trying to get better before pictures. There are a couple before and after pictures on there. But we’re trying to get better at that because we’re so we just want to get the job clean and get the customer happy that secondary
ATTILIO:
picked a month of October for the before pictures because it’s kind of scary, it’s Halloween. And then just do it once a year. And then, but I also noticed here I’ve noticed for some some knee necks like me some clean freaks. You guys do the mattresses, because our mattresses collect a wide array of dust mites shredded hair and dead skin cells. The process lifts stains out of the mattress fibers and leaves it’s smelling fresh and clean and extends the lifetime of your bed specially with how much money people are spending on beds now. You’ll be able to have you guys come in and clean it. So alrighty.
ADRIENNE:
Yeah, sounds like you guys really can help out our home owners or even tenants. Yeah, anyone that lives in a home. Yep, you can help
ATTILIO:
and all those surfaces and stuff especially since we’re spending more time in there. People want it to be clean and you feel better. And you know what it I think having these hard surfaces clean also increases or improves the indoor air quality. And they’re thereby your your health. So I think it’s all it’s all good. All right. Yep. It’s
MIKE:
all kind of interconnected. Okay,
ADRIENNE:
so Mike, was there anything that we should have covered with you that we didn’t Yeah,
MIKE:
I think that’s that’s about everything that I wanted to get out there. So thank you guys for having me on.
ATTILIO:
Sure. Ice. So zero was cleaning services on Oahu going to be expanding, expanding to the outer islands soon. Protect and disinfect your carpet rugs, tile countertops more with z is Itziar water. Is that what you guys call it? The our water? Yep. Okay. And an all natural high alkaline, non toxic cleaning fluid and awesome stuff.
ADRIENNE:
Give them give them a call. 808-699-7232
ATTILIO:
and it’s it’s not? Mike Mantlo it’s Mike Manalo.
MIKE:
Waimanalo like Waimanalo
ADRIENNE:
