ATTILIO:
first guest is Honolulu City Council member representing District nine, including Waipahu, Ewa Beach and surrounding areas. Before entering politics, he was a prominent comedian, still is and a radio personality in Hawaii, known for his work in local media and voice over projects, elected to City Council in 2020, and now focuses on serving his community while continuing to be a familiar and respected figure in Hawaii.
ADRIENNE:
Joining us also is the founder and CEO of BRAVE Hawaii, a nonprofit dedicated to combating bullying and promoting kindness and respect among students inspired by her own experiences. She authored and illustrated it’s okay to be different to help others facing similar challenges. A former Miss Hawaii Junior High School America and Miss Aloha Latina, her advocacy and Community Service have earned her numerous accolades, including the violet Richardson award. Please
ATTILIO:
welcome our guests, Augie Tulba and Mahealani Sims Tulba. So
MAHEALANI:
we reached out to the we reached out to the community. My dad reached out to some people, and we were able to bless over 40 organizations with toys this year for various they’ll be doing for the holiday season. And part of it was glow worms, so we gave out a lot of those. But we had, like Transformers, we had games, we had those little PJ Mask people. I don’t know, I don’t know what the cartoons are.
ATTILIO:
Container, I just want to, I just want to, I guarantee there was no aerial fireworks in this container. I double checked
MAHEALANI:
display, we would have been in trouble if, yeah, that were the
ADRIENNE:
case. You said you had like 5000 glow worms. Yeah,
MAHEALANI:
that was just glow worms. And we had, I think we had like 20 or 30 pallets of toys, all different toys, and each box had like four or five of that toy in it. And we had so many boxes, so it was a lot. It was a lot of toys. I think over like 200 $100,000 worth of toys, maybe more than that. Wow. And we were able to distribute most of them. We still have a couple, but we’re going to do some more pickups and deliveries, and hopefully bless a lot of people this holiday season. You
ATTILIO:
know, let’s talk about BRAVE because, you know, reading the intro and, you know, we’ve crossed paths many times, and it’s, I’m so happy to see that you’re sticking with this and staying in it. I mean, when we stick with things in long term, we get results anti bullying. And I was thinking like, you know, I I was born and raised on Oahu, and my dad was in the fire department. We kept moving. So it was always the new kid at all these different kind of elementary public schools all over Oahu. I’m talking like from Wailua to I even went to Kalihi elementary school, and I went to mana wheelie, I went to all over the place, and I will tell you, I did have my okole kicked a couple times. But back then, old school, it was like
ADRIENNE:
there was there was no brave, there was no brave around part of the
ATTILIO:
deal, and we accept it. You know, you could get toughen up and but I realized that that’s old school
MAHEALANI:
thinking. Well, I think some of that mentality still kind of exists, maybe not for physical bullying, like punching and kicking people, but really online cyber bullying is a big is a big thing. And I think a lot of people who are on the internet, especially kids these days and and young teenagers, they’re like, people are gonna say mean things to you. That’s just what happens on the internet. And it’s a sad reality, because you hide behind a screen, you know, you don’t have to put yourself up. Yeah, exactly. So I think even now, more than ever, that mentality is still here. It’s just switched from a physical altercation to a digital
ATTILIO:
one. Yeah, it’s even
AUGIE T:
worse, you know, there’s a there’s a routine that I talk about, if you know that happened during our time, and I came home the computer,
ATTILIO:
you know? I mean honestly, but, but you can’t address your attackers nowadays. It’s hard.
MAHEALANI:
And I think a lot of people these days who are on the internet just kind of say, like, you just kind of have to suck it up or don’t put don’t post on social media, don’t go on Instagram, don’t go on Facebook, don’t go on Twitter, don’t go on Tiktok. And it’s like there are so many great things that can come from those websites, but until we can find a way to, I guess, not police, but, you know, just be more mindful of the things that we say online and the effect that it has on people, we’re not going to be able to really focus on those amazing things that can come from social media.
ATTILIO:
Yeah, there’s, I think I forgot what country just passed the law that it’s i. Was Australia, yeah, under 16,
ADRIENNE:
illegal, all across the board, all social media. And what do we know about
ATTILIO:
kids? When you tell them, No, you kind of have that, they figure out a way to get I mean, there’s
MAHEALANI:
always a way anyway. I mean, there’s VPNs now, and you can access, you know, Netflix from a different country, in your in your living room, if you have a VPN. So there’s definitely ways around it. But, I mean, I think it’s a good step in the right direction in order to help, you know, shield our youth, yeah, yeah. But I think, you know, it still needs, it needs some work. But
AUGIE T:
dad and daughter don’t agree, because it starts at home, yeah, all right. So, like, the reason why all the children in our home, I think do okay is because, from an early age, you know, you kind of harness the fact that, you know, we should be talking with respect, yeah, we should be acknowledging even when you’re wrong, you know, being humble. So, you know, I get it. We want to try to protect but we cannot, and we have to teach our children to sometimes walk away or stand up for people. Yeah, you know, because, you know, I had a great conversation with high school students this morning from Campbell, asking, Can we have a police
ATTILIO:
station, the biggest high school in the state, right? And
AUGIE T:
they have a leadership group. They wanted a police station. Oh, I said every Listen, every community in Oahu wants a police station. But how are we gonna have a police station when we don’t have police officers? Yeah, you know, and we gotta do better at educating the public, because I went on ride alongs and you the disrespect, you know, even when you know you’re wrong, the way people yell or talk to police officers, people that we admonish growing up, right when we’re in school, when you want to be when you grow up, you know, President, a policeman or fireman. Now, everybody wants to be a social influencer,
MAHEALANI:
YouTuber, well, I think that’s because it’s easy, you know, yeah, I mean, I mean, on the surface it looks easy, right? You know, if you’re just a content consumer, you know, you doom. Scroll on the internet all day. You can see like, Oh, I could do that. I could sit in my room and post videos and do whatever and make a lot of money. I can make money. Yeah, exactly. But, and that’s just, you know, I think people nowadays, especially after COVID and after, you know, working remote and not having to go into the office or wherever it is that you work, a lot of people want to stay home and do work from home or just be at home. I know I’m a home body, and I sometimes I’m like, I don’t want to go to work, but I have to, I’m going to get fired. So, you know, that’s life. That’s good
ATTILIO:
motivation.
ADRIENNE:
You’re adulting, yeah, yeah, gotta do what you got
MAHEALANI:
to do. But I know that there are a lot of people, especially young teenagers and people who are maybe just starting to think about college or think about what they’re going to do after high school. They’re like, I just want to stay home and stay home and be Mr. Beast. And do you know, awesome things, and you can and and you can, I think, if you anything with anything with any passion that you have, as long as you put your mind to it and you remember that you’re doing it for, not for, you know, to make money, but because you love it and you want to share your passion with other people, then that’ll come to you
ATTILIO:
anyway. I think, you know people do you think, like, like, the phone is, like, back in the day, like Elvis Presley and rock and roll, that’s the devil and TV was the same thing, and then, and then. So now we’re not gonna let just, it’s it’s challenging, but it’s gonna be very challenging to legislate at legislate protection for kids with the phone. Well,
ADRIENNE:
I think that with BRAVE and educating the kids, I think that’s, that’s the best thing that we can do. And this is from someone great their age,
MAHEALANI:
yeah, and, and you’re there, as I’ve gone, you know, because I started this when I was 13, yes, but I got bullied when I was 10 years old. So it’s really started since, you know, almost 15 years ago. At this point, and I’ve as, we’ve gone to different schools, we’ve gone to different libraries, we’ve talked to different groups. I’ve realized, while also being in school, that children and students listen to other children and other students, yes, rather than an adult that they don’t know. And I think that’s really important. Then I think that’s another reason why we try to not our as we’ve gone on in our brave career, we’ve branched out from elementary school students to middle school to high school students, and then to involve adults and other organizations. Because as I’ve grown with the organization, the organization grows in the people that we’ve that we try to target as well.
ADRIENNE:
So with with your organization, do you have other younger people that come in and help speak to the middle schoolers and elementary school. Before,
MAHEALANI:
back, back before, when I was still in school, my dad was usually the one doing it, because I was in class, but I I came when I could. I know he’s been they’ve been there since the beginning. But we do have a program. We have a brave kids program where we showcase other kids who are doing great things in the community. And we also have, we have a pageant called Miss American scholar. There are a lot of big things that are happening in our pageant right now, but those contestants that we have also promote brave as their platform. So they come with us and they do different events. We do talent showcases at Pearl ridge. We went to the Pumpkin Festival during October. We do various events out through the community, like all year round. So we have all age groups, not just them, but their their parents and their siblings and the rest of their family, if they want to come and be a part of it too, like we encourage everybody to so
ADRIENNE:
with our with our listeners that are like getting excited about hearing about all these great things, where would they connect? What would be the best way for them to just make a connection. Where
MAHEALANI:
can they go? Yeah, you go to brave hawaii.org Oh, that’s our website, okay? Or if you know us, because I know there are a lot of people who know us, me and my dad, if you want to message us or email us, let us know that you want to be a part of what we’re doing, you can brave Hawaii at info at Brave hawaii.org sorry, brave hawaii@info.org is our email, yeah. And then brave hawaii.org is our website,
ADRIENNE:
and then you guys are on Instagram, yes, yes.
MAHEALANI:
Instagram is brave Hawaii, and his Instagram is Augie T and my Instagram is my handle on the underscore, st, yeah,
AUGIE T:
when it comes to me, I just forwarded to Attilio, yeah,
MAHEALANI:
or he’ll forward it to us. Just Yeah, send a message. We’ll get in touch with you. We promise. No houses are here right now. It’s just AI, oh, that’s another thing I think, um, that we were talking about. You know how it was like the phone, or is like, or rock music’s like the devil. I feel like AI is the next is the next one that’s like, Ooh, I don’t really know, because AI is scary, yeah, AI is terrifying. And I don’t really like AI. He does. He loves you. I don’t
AUGIE T:
like it. I like I like it because of innovation. So, like, you know, I have to go to all of these conferences, and they, they talk about the innovation on AI, right? And how they do, you know, like, even maybe possibly solving the problem with DPP, believe it or not. Oh, simple, simple problems with, well, you know, because maybe not a red tape. So, like, if you have solution minded people, yes, right, that’s they, where you can get, you know, the answers quickly. Um, you know this all kind of, you know possibilities, but you know it’s eventually coming, and it’s getting, you know, it’s getting better every every part of everything we have just don’t realize, and you know, I’m hoping that that will help, you know, with getting stuff processed really quick. So we heard it a lot, right with the mess message, how, you know, they develop the computer program so that things that would normally take two months is like five weeks, six weeks. So it’s we’re getting there. Yeah, we still need a lot. I don’t think we have. I think we have a housing problem, but I think we have more of an opportunity problem we should be fixing, helping DVP and diversifying our economy, so our local kids, like my daughter and my older kids and everyone else’s kids will get an opportunity to live, work and play in Hawaii.
ATTILIO:
Yeah, and on, on a on a piece of real estate. Yes, you know, because AI still has its faults, I would, I would ask chat GPT, what’s the funniest joke in the world. You know what the response was? What is brown and sticky? And the answer was, one stick. And I was like, that’s terrible. That’s a terrible joke. So AI is like, still has some work to do. Brown and sticky, one stick, which is
MAHEALANI:
really scary, thinking about how good it already is and how much better it could, can and will become.
ATTILIO:
Well, what in to segue into that? And it is AI is still not, I mean, hopefully not in our lifetime. But it’s not replacing the human interaction, eyeball to eyeball, right, the voice, right?
MAHEALANI:
It’s helping. I think, I think there’s still that for people to realize, there’s still that little inkling of like that’s not human, and you can tell right now. So hopefully, it hopefully, kind of stays like that. Because I think once you pass that threshold of not knowing what’s real and what’s artificially generated? Yeah, that’s when it can get really dangerous.
ATTILIO:
Are you helping people with with the messaging? Because Aug, I just it’s, it sounds like a weird segue, but I’m remembering one of your you talk about, hey, how these kids flunky when they got the whole world in their hand, which is the phone. And I just thought, like, now that’s the bully. Is the phone? Is the phone? Phone bully is the bullies now, is the phone? Yeah? So what’s the messaging that you do have for the schools and the parents regarding that digital bullying?
MAHEALANI:
Well, it’s, it’s really hard because it is an anonymous but most of the time it’s anonymous, or, you know, people put up burner accounts, yeah, or fake accounts and or they hide or pretend that they’re somebody else, honestly. I mean, the best thing that you can do is just delete comments like that or block those people, especially if you don’t know them and they’re just random people, like just blocking them. Yes, the best thing that you can do if it’s somebody that you know and it’s somebody that you know you care about for, like your family or whatever, which they shouldn’t be doing that. But it happens. It happens. Then I think you have to, like, find it in yourself to see if you want to bridge that relationship or whatever. But you know you have to be safe about it. You have to be careful about it. And once it gets to the point where there’s threats involved whatever, then you have to take legal measures and all that. But in terms of being online and combating threats and bullying online, next thing you can do is to just block and delete those people. You
can also report them, yes, yeah, and then just hopefully the the platform will right take care of them as well, yeah, especially multiple com and sometimes the platforms have resources as well
ATTILIO:
too. Yeah. So I know there’s like, a new law in place where, like, no way, shape or form, can they disclose who that person is, because the platforms know unless they’re like, super cyber, techy people that could be in like, Croatia or something, and we’re never gonna find them unless you had the CIA, but you were talking about, like, blocking people. I totally get that because, you know, we had our show on YouTube or something, and then this comment came in, like, this show is terrible. You guys don’t even talk about real estate. Atilio’s jokes are terrible. They’re not really funny. And it was signed mom, so I had to block her. I had to block
ADRIENNE:
her. There is another there was another one. I will not stand for that. There was another one. There’s a person that always comments on your pie in the face. Videos,
ATTILIO:
oh yeah, we saw we do pie in the face. Video, anyway. And she always say, I’ll come. I don’t pie. She wants me
ADRIENNE:
to get pied in the face. She’s very upset every time that he gets his pie. Years of me getting the pie in every every year, this person is very upset that I’m not getting the pie. Yeah, butilio is greedy with the pie in the face. He likes it. He likes Yeah, whip
ATTILIO:
crazy. It’s his favorite time of year. Very luxurious. Anyway. So I find it interesting that because for people are listening to this so they don’t, they may or may not know the age differences between the people that are talking right now, but we have a nice little spread here because you, you’re the young person me and your dad is about the same age we and then we were because you grew up right like, we’re like, Oh, what happened before the phone, we knew where we were going, and we showed up on time.
ADRIENNE:
We had the map we had the map books, map books, but I’m not as old as you and Augie and
ATTILIO:
then Adrienne
ADRIENNE:
is. I’m in between. You guys. She’s
ATTILIO:
in between because I’m like, we, we’re in the car together, and we’re always arguing. Because I’m like, why are you using the map to to go to Ala Moana mall?
ADRIENNE:
I just want to know which way is, like, the traffic 20 years. It tells you the traffic, like, which way to redirect. It’s like, if they’re faster, yes, I don’t want to go to the traffic. I don’t know where
MAHEALANI:
to go. It’s how do I get there? Quick, exactly. But
ATTILIO:
for me, like, and I want everybody to comment, you all get to you and you Adrienne, too, is like, what are we doing with these phones? And for me personally, like, it’s a weird, little known fact, unknown fact about me. I personally am not on any social media at all. Zero. I don’t have a Facebook, I don’t have an Instagram, I don’t have a tick tock. I think I have LinkedIn, but the team runs it.
ADRIENNE:
Someone made a fake. Attilio Leonardi, Instagram, even, you
ATTILIO:
know, I’m not in common with Snoop Dogg, we had
ADRIENNE:
a fake. You’ve made it. Yeah, right,
ATTILIO:
but yeah, so I’m not, I’m not there at all, like, I’m on social media, but not on social media because it’s through our promotions and our team and this and that and the radio show and the videos, but not me. I’m not, like, looking at it. So I mean, I was on Facebook for about six months, I was like, yeah, let Adrienne do all of that stuff. So that’s my way. And then with my kids, I’m just like, I have ground rules with my kids. Like, if we go to the gym and want to work out, phone stays in the car. You know, there’s a new surgical procedure sweeping the nation right now. What they’re doing is surgically removing the phones from kids hands. That’s very popular, but I just say, you know, what can we just put the get rid of their thumbs? Like, no phone at church, no phone when we go out to eat, no phone when I’m in the gym with you, because I want to interact with you. And I’m like, and, you know, my kids are like, okay, they get that. But instead of like, put that phone away. It’s Satan in a, you know, in the iPhone 17, Satan. I just, we do. A balancing act of that.
ADRIENNE:
Adrienne, what’d you do? I have this circle app, and I turn the Wi Fi off, yeah. Hey, there we have, you know, downtime. She’s the hammer. And then the other thing that I really like to do is all there’s, like, a little group chat I have with my kids on Instagram. When I send them helpful reels that I want, like finance or doing chores.
ATTILIO:
I like it. Yes. Parenting through Tiktok. I like that. Yeah. Like,
ADRIENNE:
I see, I was like, see other people say the same thing here, like, and they actually read it, and they’ll respond. And it’s little group messaging that we have. It’s fun. I made
ATTILIO:
a Tiktok video, and it was sent it to my kids and tell them, make sure you home on time, and what about you, Auggie, it’s connected
AUGIE T:
to my face. I’m not gonna lie, my wife is right next to me.
And like, you know, there’s so much information, there’s so much information, and I get, I get, yeah, I go down, I go to the room Hall, yeah. And I try to pretend that I get them, but I don’t, right,
ADRIENNE:
he’s got to interpret for you. Yes,
AUGIE T:
you know, I think
ATTILIO:
we’re at the age when people say words we don’t understand. I don’t know what that word means. It’s so funny,
MAHEALANI:
because there are so many times where he’s like, how do you do this on the computer? I have to go over there. And I’m like, I showed you how to do this already. Like, five times. The last five times you asked me how to do
ATTILIO:
it. You move the mouse, and the hamburger hand on the screen moves with
MAHEALANI:
like, you click this, and then you click that, and then you press Save, got it, and then you pick which one you want, and okay. And then, like, a week later, he asks me the same question. You
ATTILIO:
know, for me, it’s like, like, my idea of the ideal,
MAHEALANI:
uh, vacation resort. That’s okay. I get it. I get it. There
ATTILIO:
probably is one like this already, and I’m telling you, it’s going to be popular. You heard it on the team Lally radio, state radio show today, that there’s going to be a new type of resort where you go there, and there’s no Wi Fi, no nothing. All your phone’s gonna get checked in at the lobby, and you got to do this weird, wacky thing like be present, make eye contact and have conversations with people
ADRIENNE:
you know, you can do that on a cruise. You just don’t buy the Wi Fi package. I did that to my kids when I went to Alaska. I was like, no Wi Fi. We’re gonna just enjoy enjoy the view. I
ATTILIO:
have a new app that I came out with. You guys should all download it right now. The name of the app is, look up
MAHEALANI:
and that’s all it says. It just says, look up on this when you open it, that okay,
ATTILIO:
but, and you know, we have all this different input and perspectives on it, but at the end of the day, it’s like going and saying, like, when TVs came out, we’re going to ban TVs. It’s not going to work. When the internet came out, we’re going to ban the internet. We’re going to ban this, ban that. And you know, it’s just doesn’t work human nature. It started from the garden of Eve. God said you can have fruits from all of these trees, except that one, he might as well put on big sign, eat the apple. Right, right? It’s human nature from the dawn of time. When you tell people not to do something they’re like even want to do it more. That is not the approach. No. So BRAVE. Tell us again, BRAVE. The it’s, it’s how people should be. But it is an acronym, yeah, so
ADRIENNE:
that is brave. It
MAHEALANI:
stands for be respectful and value everyone, yeah. And I think that’s the, just the most important message, just in general, yeah, everywhere we go, we always tell people to be brave, yeah, because, you know it, it’s so easy to just say something nice to somebody, or to smile at someone, or to compliment somebody, or just to be respectful, yeah, you know. And you never know what that person is going through, what their day could be like, what you know, their spouse said to them, or what their sister or their brother said to them, yeah, or what their best friend said to them. That’s that’s making them feel, you know, down or not, not so great. And you say, Hey, I like your shirt, or hey, whatever, it makes people feel good. And you know, and it’s, and it’s free, it’s like, you’re a genuine compliment. Yeah, it’s easy to do, and it goes a long way.
ATTILIO:
You know, people get annoyed, like the people in the corners, you know, they get the cardboard sign, I need some money and stuff like that. And I, if I do give them money, I sincerely, I do ask them, like, what’s your name? And then I get, then I get little bit resentful, because they call me uncle. I’m like, I look that old, but that old, but anyway, I passed uncle already. I’m accepting it. I’m Uncle. Now you pass these two kids, at least they didn’t call you grandpa. I was riding my bike at night. It’s super dark. I was trying to get past these two kids. They’re like, Oh, Uncle, you should install one hold on your bike. I’m like, Yeah, I know, but they call me uncle, and they couldn’t even see me. So I’m like, I mean, I even project older. But with that person, I asked them, what’s their name? Because you just give them the money, because you just want to get them out of the way, what’s your name? Well, my name is Charlie. Charlie. Nice to meet you. Once. I was like, What’s your name? And like, my name is Jerry. And I was like, oh, you know, no more cash. He’s like, Oh, no, where your uncle? I get Apple. Okay, no, I did not have a homeless guy with the Apple paper. Hey, you never
MAHEALANI:
know i That’s, I feel like that’s believable in some
ATTILIO:
sense, yeah, yeah, QR code one is the Venmo, yeah, the sign the QR code. But it’s just about like people just want to be acknowledged. Yeah, there’s another human being, and whether they’re sleeping in the park or they’re the CEO of a company, I guarantee you, they all got that same sign on their neck. Make me feel important, not less than, yeah, not less than. So we thank you so much for that. What are the questions? What are the things you want to share with us? Oh, gosh, you know what
AUGIE T:
she you know, she has a new Christmas song, pause this Christmas night, yes. And you know, you can download it and 100% of the proceeds so that we don’t work, we don’t have to work so hard. Goes directly to brave. And it’s a nice, beautiful song. I listen
ATTILIO:
to it, yeah, very nice. Yay.
MAHEALANI:
Thank you. It’s also available on streaming. So I don’t know how many people buy songs anymore, because I don’t. So it’s available on streaming also. And I also have another song called fake it
ATTILIO:
that’s also on that one too, yes, because when I was listening to the song, it said, also by this artist, yes, yeah. So he’s very smart,
MAHEALANI:
so I have those, and then I’ll be releasing another one soon, and then there’s an EP is gonna come out, and we’ll see. Hopefully,
ADRIENNE:
now I get super famous. I’m great. I’m gonna be performing any of these. I
MAHEALANI:
hope so. I know I performed at pro Ridge a couple of weeks ago. I also performed at the Pumpkin Festival. I think I’m doing a performance soon. I’m looking at my parents for a confirmation. Yes, no, are we doing the Christmas song soon? Soon? Okay, that’s what I was looking for.
ADRIENNE:
So if our listeners want to come and see that live, they’re gonna have to follow you on Instagram, yeah, to get the update. Yeah, so I don’t know if we’re allowed to say it yet, it’ll happen. It’ll happening. It’s gonna be announced. Yeah? On Instagram, yes. So follow you there,
MAHEALANI:
yes. Mahealani underscore, st, you can also follow me. My artist. Name is Maxi Maxi, maxi underscore, official of Cl, that is my Instagram. Yeah. So anything else, I think
ATTILIO:
you techie people, go download it, tell all your people, post it on social media, use your bop technology to like download your friends. And because it’s a really good message, I liked it. And you know, we don’t need to listen. We listen to Mariah Carey every year.
MAHEALANI:
It’s Maxi, yeah, no,
AUGIE T:
and I, you know, I appreciate you guys. You know, we hear so much about like being priced out of paradise, and we, you guys gotta know it’s not true. There’s ways you can take care of your family and own a home here. So, you know, I appreciate what you guys doing, yeah, in doing this radio show and getting because in the next four years, my whole goal is to be super more I already try to be as transparent as I can. But I think one of the ways, you know, for me in the next four years is just really letting people know there’s so much opportunities, and if we just took the time to understand what government can and cannot do, yeah, man, you know, we can get a lot done working through the private, public and nonprofit, yeah, and even churches, you know, to solve some of those, some of the small problems I think in our neighborhoods that can, they can make an amazing impact, and can be beacons, you know, for everyone else to See. And I think it’s going to happen in Waipahu and Babich in district nine. Yes, four years,
ADRIENNE:
we’ll be starting there, and then the rest of the island will follow, right? Yeah,
ATTILIO:
yeah. We live in a way. We live in a democratic society. And you know, everybody’s voice and vote counts, but you know that also comes to like, if you see some trash, never mind. You know, I’m gonna tell you guys, stop calling some government number. Go over there, pick it up. Yeah, you see some great go get some goof off.
AUGIE T:
Okay? September 17, September 17 to Friday.
ADRIENNE:
I’m sorry, January,
AUGIE T:
January 17, from like three to like five. We’re gonna do this thing called Tag. You’re out. You know, I don’t know if you’re noticing, but in ever in white power, vandalism and graffiti and couple a yes
ADRIENNE:
in it, a Gucci
AUGIE T:
guy, Gucci, Gucci, I know. So we do this thing called Tag, you’re out, and we’re looking for volunteers. We providing the paint. We just need you guys to go around and we’re just gonna paint up on our graffiti. Nice, yeah, I like another great way of giving back to your community and saying, Look, we’re gonna do this because we concerned and we want our community to look nicer. So if you guys want to participate, you can go to I’ll give. Toba hl.com,
ATTILIO:
there it is, graffiti clean up, and then, you know, there’s nothing stopping you all from duplicating this in all your communities, across Oahu, across Hawaii, for the 100,000 tourists listening to our shows right now. Take it back to your community.
ADRIENNE:
So, okay, so we’re, we’re nearing the end of the show, and I just, I wanted to get, like, a, some kind of a success story, or an example of what brave has done to, you know, a young person in our community, yes,
MAHEALANI:
oh gosh. I mean, there’s, there’s so much we’ve done, so much, just besides this, uh, Christmas toy drive, yeah, um, we’ve been able to reach, I get over the 1010, 12 years we’ve been doing this, we’ve been able to reach, you know, over 100,000 kids, students, families, just really spreading the mission of being respectful and valuing everyone. I’ve also I’ve been able to go to the mainland and internationally to talk about brave and really share my project and my mission. I’ve been able to meet some really awesome kids. Well, they’re not kids anymore. I guess we’re all adults now, but when I met them, we were we were children. Yeah, we were kids. And, you know, also doing amazing things in the community. So I was able to make some really great connections and and partner with them and do things with their projects and my projects. But we still want to grow. There’s still so much more that we can do, and we have so many people that are helping us and we can. We can’t do anything without them, but we still want to continue to grow and continue to help as many people as we can. It’s never, you know, there’s always a bigger success that can be done, right? So, yeah, yeah,
ATTILIO:
but at least you’re doing something, because most people just sit around complaining about anything.
AUGIE T:
So when you go to brave you’ll see some of the kids that got the scholarship nice, you know. So I don’t want to single because they’re all extra special, you know, from beach cleanups to just bringing awareness to environmental issues. You know, there’s so many kids that that go above and beyond, yeah. And that’s why, like, you know, let’s keep going, yeah. The next, the next goal is, you know, be the star competition, yeah. And in the middle star competition, we want these kids to do much more than sing. But like, what is your path from what you believe in? Yeah, so strongly that you can make a difference. And, you know, we eventually want to do the brave Leadership Academy, the ambassador, you know, make brave ambassadors, you know, throughout not only Hawaii, but like, nationwide, one day.
ADRIENNE:
Yeah, I love it. I love the vision and the growth. And thank you both for Thank you for having us. Yeah, it was amazing, yes, having you here in studio and seeing your whole family here.
MAHEALANI:
Yeah, mom is here too. She’s Yeah, she’s over there. She’s supporting from Kimberly, from the silence.
ADRIENNE:
All right, so we’re gonna wrap it up here.
