With all the recent flooding on the island of Kauai, we’d like to go over some important information regarding flood insurance.
Before we get into our main topic, though, we’d also like to extend an opportunity for you to help affected Kauai residents. If you’re interested in assisting with relief efforts, click here to donate to the Kauai Red Cross. Monetary donations allow relief supplies to be distributed where they are needed the most.
Also, if you are planning a trip to Kauai, please note that recent flooding has only impacted the northernmost portion of the island. The money you spend here as a tourist will greatly benefit the island and its residents.

“I highly recommend looking into flood insurance coverage regardless of whether you live in a zone where it is required.”

– Bradley Murayama

Now let’s move on to today’s topic: flood insurance. To help us cover this important subject, we’ve brought on special guest Bradley Maruyama of Allstate Insurance.
First of all, it’s important not to confuse flood insurance with homeowners or hurricane insurance. Knowing what kinds of damage are covered by each of these is critical. Just because water has entered a home, it doesn’t necessarily mean that the resulting damage is covered by your flood insurance policy.
For example: If strong winds cause damage to your roof and water gets in as a result, you’ll want to look into your homeowners insurance policy.
I highly recommend looking into flood insurance coverage regardless of whether you live in a zone where it is required. If you aren’t sure which flood zone your property is located in, you can find out here.
If you want reach out to Bradley directly, he would be happy to discuss your circumstances and what coverage options may be best for you. You can get in touch with Bradley by phone at (808) 591-8016 or by sending him an email at bradleymaruyama@allstate.com.
